Is Education being pulled in two directions?

As I listen to Ken Kay, one thing stood out. As he described the 20th Century tools it sounded exactly like the online assessments that we have created. Can we accomplish both goals? Master the standards in each of our areas and infuse the technology needed to prepare our students for the 21st Century?

Please reply.

Are the skills that the business world is looking for the same as the skills that the 4 year colleges are looking for?

Do plumbers, construction, electricians, utility linemen, mechanics, etc. looking for the same skills as bankers, lawyers, financial officers, and other professional businesses?

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills would say that 'yes'- the skill sets for both lines of professions ARE the same. Maybe our interviews will reveal more. They would also say that 21st century skills should make a student successful in a 4 yr college as well as the business world... but we may need to see it to believe it! Just as your title indicates, we ARE being pulled in 2 directions. And that is why we need to work for educational reform at all levels- local, state, and nationally as well- so that all work hand-in-hand instead of resulting in teacher burn-out! Great post and insights!
